Monument Protection and Preservation of the Ensemble

The Olympic Park has been listed as an ensemble in the Bavarian Monument Register since 1998. Changes, such as the construction of the new SAP Garden sports arena or the campus of the Technical University of Munich (TUM), must be carefully planned, respect existing references, and proceed with caution – to ensure that the Olympic Park remains a 'living heritage' for the future.

The Olympic Tower, the main sports venues, the men’s Olympic Village, the Ecumenical Church Center, the Olympiazentrum subway station as part of the Olympic subway line, and the Olympic Hill with parts of the landscape design are individual monuments. In 2025, the Olympic Park ensemble will be expanded to include the residential buildings of the Olympic Press City.

Since its opening, around 220 million visitors have come to the Olympic Park grounds. This intensive use for events and leisure activities and its consequences must be managed. The park is complex and, in many areas, sensitive. To preserve it as a total work of art, protect nature, and prepare it for the future, the city has commissioned a design manual, a master plan, and a park maintenance plan.
