Ecumenical Church Center Frieden Christi

It was the first ecumenical church center in Bavaria – reflecting the spirit of the 1972 Olympic Games: cheerful, open-minded, and democratic.

Olympiapark Kirchenzentrum

Designed by the Munich-based architectural partnership Christ & Karg, the building was the first ecumenical church center in Bavaria. Inspired by the twelve apostles, the roof rests on twelve columns. The structural system used to span the resulting distances is a space frame by the company Mero, typical of industrial buildings of that era. During the 1972 Olympic Games, not only Christian but also Jewish and Islamic services were held here – in 14 different languages.

Since then, the Protestant Olympic Church and the Catholic parish Frieden Christi have grown into two vibrant communities that share the space and offer many joint programs and events under one roof.
